University of Setif 1 – Ferhat Abbas organized a national conference on February 9–10, 2026, entitled “Climate Change and Urban Resilience in Algerian Cities”, hosted by the Institute of Architecture and Earth Sciences under the supervision of the Urban Project, City and Territory Laboratory.
The event brought together experts, researchers, and socio-economic partners to discuss adaptation challenges facing Algerian cities in the context of climate change. Key topics included urban transition, territorial governance, major risk management, the use of geographic information systems (GIS), and the impact of urban heat islands.
The program also focused on practical applications of urban resilience, flexible planning of public spaces, local urban development in desert areas, and sustainability strategies in coastal regions. Technical workshops were conducted in partnership with Knauf, highlighting innovation in construction materials and energy efficiency.
The conference aims to enhance the resilience of Algerian cities by integrating climate considerations into urban planning tools and promoting sustainable development strategies aligned with contemporary environmental challenges.
